Rebranding MycoLove Farm: how we build a brand system
In 2023 we rebranded MycoLove Farm. What a farm brand needs from a rebrand, and the four steps we use to build a system that holds.
In February 2023 we rebranded MycoLove Farm. It was a branding job, not a shoot. The work was the system the brand lives in, and the rules that keep it consistent wherever it shows up.
What a rebrand is for
A rebrand is not a new logo. It is a decision about how a brand looks and sounds everywhere it appears, made once and used for years. A good one makes every later choice easier, because the answers are already in the system.
For a farm brand, the identity has to work on a label, a website and a phone screen alike. It has to feel true to where the product comes from, and it has to hold up next to bigger names wherever it is sold.
Signs it is time to rebrand
A few signs it is time:
- The look changes from one place to the next.
- The brand has grown, and the identity has not.
- New products do not fit the old system.
- The team rebuilds every asset from scratch.
Our four steps
- Concept: find the idea and the look the system grows from
- Build the system: identity, key art and 3D models
- Apply it everywhere: packaging, billboards, ads, social and signage
- Hand over: files, guides and motion toolkits
Concept comes first because everything grows from it. Before we draw anything, we find the idea and the look that should carry the brand. Then we build the system: the identity, the key art and, when the brand needs them, 3D models. Applying it everywhere is where a system proves itself, on packaging, ads, social and signage. The hand over makes it last: files, guides and motion toolkits, so the brand's own team can keep using it.
What you walk away with
- The identity or key art
- The 3D assets, when the brand needs them
- The applied pieces
- The files and the guide
Those pieces are built to be used, not filed away. A guide nobody opens is not a system. We write ours so the next designer, printer or social lead can pick it up and get it right the first time.
Design that holds up in production
Because the same team that designs also shoots, we design with the camera in mind. A brand system has to look right on a label, in a film frame and on a billboard. Our Design and Studio work sit on one team, so the system is tested where it will actually live.
In our clients' words
“I was always excited to show the work to my executives once completed.”
Questions to answer before a rebrand
- What should people feel when they see the brand? Say it in one line.
- Where will the identity live most: on pack, on screen or on a sign?
- What has to stay, so loyal customers still recognize you?
- Who will use the system after launch, and what do they need from it?
- Which pieces do you need first, and which can follow?
