The hotel as a night out.
Shoot the hotel like a night out: the W Austin holiday set
One afternoon, five spaces and a hotel dressed for the season. How we shot the W Austin holidays in our home city, graded by hand in true color.
The holidays come once a year, and a hotel has a few weeks to be the place to be. At W Austin the tree was up in the lobby and the season had arrived. We had one afternoon to show it: Monday 1 December 2025, from 12:35 to 3:35 PM.
A party already started
A hotel photo of an empty room sells a room. A photo with people in it sells a night. So we shot the W like a night out: cast guests, real drinks, and every space lit as if the party had already begun. It is also how people choose where to spend a night out. They look at the photos and ask one question: do I want to be there?
That one decision shapes everything else. Guests need direction, drinks need to look like they were poured a minute ago, and the light needs to feel like plans for the evening, not a property listing.
Five spaces in three hours
- The lobby, with the tree
- The lounge
- The restaurant
- The bar
- The coffee bar
Three hours is tight for five spaces. It works when the plan is set before the camera comes out: which space, which moment, which guests and in which order. We set the idea, cast the talent and moved from space to space on a schedule.
Cast guests, not props
The people in a hotel photo should look like the guests the hotel wants. We cast for the space: people who look at home at the bar, in the lounge and at the coffee bar. They are directed, but the moments should feel real, because guests can tell when they are not.
Graded by hand, true color
Hotels are sold on how a place feels, and color carries most of that feeling. We graded every frame by hand and kept the color true: the warm light of the bar, the glow of the tree, skin that looks like skin. No effects.
Why we like shooting at home
Austin is home. Our studio is here, and shooting the season in our own city is the kind of work we enjoy most. We know what a December afternoon in Austin looks like, and we planned the light around it.
A season shoot should cover every space the hotel wants to sell, in one plan. Five spaces in one afternoon gives the hotel a set of images for the whole season, from the lobby to the coffee bar.
For hotels and venues
- Shoot people, not rooms. Guests sell the feeling.
- Plan the order of spaces before the day.
- Dress the space for the season, then light it like the party has started.
- Keep the color true. Guests should recognize the place when they arrive.
- Book the shoot early. The season is short.
The same approach works for a bar, a restaurant or a venue launch: real people, a clear plan and color you can trust.
Running a hotel, a bar or a venue in Austin or Los Angeles? Book a call. We will plan a shoot that makes people want to be there.
